For Historian Khaled Fahmy there is no doubt that when you look at the history of modern Egypt and then look at the revolution that started in January 2011 and continues to this day – something fundamental has changed in this country. Those famous 18 days known as the  height of the “arab spring” signified, among other things, a break with the tradition of having 1 strong unquestionable father figure leading the country which goes back almost a century.   It brought a new and energetic spirit that demands accountability and yes – a real democracy, and this spirit has, in turn, inspired nations and awakened populations not just in the middle east but throughout the world.
