Contemporary jeweller Kerry Howley used human hair to create this collection of necklaces, named Attraction/Aversion. “Hair is a familiar material we take pride in, yet it becomes a source of aversion once it parts from the body,” she explains. Inspired by these conflicting emotions, Howley wanted to see if she could make discarded hair attractive again. What looks like Victorian mourning jewelry are according to Kerry, necklaces with a delicate balance between feelings of aversion and attraction, due to her use of patterns and symmetry that are instinctively pleasing.
