Young people ages 18 to 29 are the biggest group in the US with tattoos, according to a recent PEW Research center survey. Also known as Generation Y or Millennials, 38% of the 830 people in this age group surveyed, said they had at least one tattoo.
32% of 30 to 46 year olds said they had at least one tattoo, which isn’t so far behind generation Y. Interestingly the real division comes in the age category 46 and older, where only 10% indicated having a tattoo. Also food for thought, among generation Y respondents- 50% said that had more than 1 tattoo, which illustrates what many of us have observed over the years, friends with one tattoo are often thinking of what their next one might be. How many people report having more than 5 tattoos, you may ask? Only 9% of the young ink-lovers.
The survey, entitled “Millennials: A Portrait of Generation Next”, was conducted in the United States in 2010 and consisted of just over 2000 respondents.
