The fastest legged robot in history, Cheetah robot, has broke its own land speed record of 29 kilometers per hour. But due to the efforts of Boston Dynamics, the robot is now coursing along 45.5 km/h, which is slightly faster than Usain Bolt’s world speed record of 44.7 km/h.

The BBC also reported about this, but completely shifted the goofy comparison with Bolt by adding a little, but profound, quote from professor Noel Sharkey. “It’s an incredible technical achievement, but it’s unfortunate that it’s going to be used to kill people,”. So basically he predicts – with an Oppenheimer like vision – that in the forseable future it’s likely that people are chased and hunted down by robots. We all know about this meme from a well known franchise, but I’m guessing this time it won’t be a middle class white Sarah Connor on the run with her child, but some economically underdeveloped dark-skinned people living in a land rich of natural resources. So maybe the comparisson with Bolt running wasn’t so bad after all.
