You don’t need to know what a noctilucent cloud is to admire the unearthly beauty of this picture, taken at the Soomaa National Park in Estonia; but I’ll explain it anyway. A noctilucent cloud, also known simply as a ‘night cloud’, is made of water ice and, according to Wikipedia, is a ‘ragged-edge’ of the polar mesospheric cloud. The picture, made by Martin Koitmäe, is simply stunning.
