Anouk_VleugelsIt must be hard being an Olympic logo. Or a mascot, for that matter.  Even though the games have not started, the London Olympics logo has already been accused of being pro-Zionist (the letters spell “Zion”), Nazist (the letters resemble a swastika) and Nazist some more ( the logo looks like the Waffen-SS logo).  My personal favorite: the logo resembles Lisa Simpson performing oral sex.

Many Olympic mascots have suffered the same fate. According to several sources, the one created for the upcoming games, Wenlock, bears a striking resemblance to a penis. Not surprisingly this inspired the recent headline “Terrifying penis monster” in the Toronto Sun. “Keep the young children away!” warned the Montreal Gazette in reference to the scathing accusation. It all echoed the criticism and mockery of earlier mascots, such as Atlanta’s ‘Whatizit’ (Izzy) in 1996, who Time Magazine called “a sperm in sneakers.” Creating a mascot that doesn’t resemble something phallic is,
apparently, impossible. Dr. Freud would have been pleased.london-logo

Even designers who create the least offensive, cuddly icons, are subject to criticism. For the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi,Russia, three mascots were revealed in 2011: the Polar Bear, the Hare and the Leopard. All three, according to Russian politician Vladimir Zhrinovsky, are an insult to his country. “The leopard is a bloodthirsty animal, it doesn’t evoke any happiness,” Zhrinovsky said, “The bear is a most stupid animal. And the rabbit is a coward, it’s always running.”

So conspiracists should prepare themselves: in only a few weeks the Olympics Games in London will kick off with the usual Opening Ceremony – an event interspersed with symbols and rituals for them to interpret in far fetched ways. The ceremony is entitled “Green and Pleasant,” and it will include real farm animals. Reason enough to classify it as either leftist, racist or pro-bestiality, I would say.
