Hepatitis C is spread via blood to blood contact, generally by transfusions or needle sharing and can drastically affect liver function. Hepatitis C is the leading cause of liver transplantation, though the virus usually recurs after transplantation. 130–170 million people worldwide are infected with hepatitis C and there is no vaccine against the disease.
