Perhaps the red river giant softshell turtle (Rafetus-swinhoei) may soon be lost forever. The species, together with 99 others, belong to the list of the 100 most critically endangered species in the world. About 8000 scientists have collaborated to compile this list for the first time. It was presented on Tuesday, at the World Conservation Congress in South Korea.
