Deep-sea hydrothermal vents are a fascinating window into how the earth was formed, as well as a valuable resource for life at extreme depths. But just now extreme those depths are is still being explored. This BBC video shows how Jon Copley of the UK’s National Oceanographic Centre discovered deep-sea vents about 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) down.
