A recent heat wave in Australia has prompted the country’s Bureau of Meteorology to alter their interactive weather forecasting chart to include new colors (deep purple and pink). The previous temperature range had been capped at 50 degrees C (130F) and now extends to 54C.
‘The scale has just been increased today and I would anticipate it is because the forecast coming from the bureau’s model is showing temperatures in excess of 50 degrees,’ said David Jones, head of the bureau’s climate monitoring and prediction unit.
The area in purple, above, is located in what has been informally called the Dome of Heat, a large section of interior land that has recently broken 50-year old heat records, prompting extreme wildfire danger.
