For  a second it might look like spam but in fact the “Come Hack With Us” island getaway that aims to place 12 hackers on a desert island for 2 months is very real.  Interested applicants from around the world must submit their applications complete with a proposal of what they would like to work on during their time on the island.  The organizers, who run a recruitment and hiring agency based in Kuala Lumpur, will provide food, luxury shelter, and of course- internet. The exact island the challenge will take place on is yet to be determined, though somewhere in the Philippines has been mentioned as a likely location.

At present, over 4,000 applicants have declared their interest in taking part. Besides competing based on their proposals, they will also have to face a round of psychological tests to ensure that they are mentally able to deal with working in such close and isolated quarters with 11 other hackers.

According to the organizers, the idea of isolating a small group of geniuses to encourage creativity and new ideas is nothing new, as many big tech firms are already in the practice of taking their best people out of the every day work situation and into environments where they can think clearly or differently.  So after two months on a desert island, we will either see the next google, or at the very least, some very sunburned nerds.
