Today Apple’s event will take place and next to possible announcing the iPhone 5 / 4s the most rumored thing is artificial intelligence integrated in an app called Assistant.
Imagine yourself in a new city and you’re really craving Thai Food. Now in the past you might have pulled up Google, performed a search and looked through the results. With Assistant, you can say to your iPhone, “Please find me a Thai restaurant within a kilometer of my location”.
Instead of searching for a bank, Assistant will find it for you. Need a taxi? Assistant will find you a phone number. Imagine other applications integrated through Assistant as for example Foursquare. “On foursquare what is the most visited bar in Amsterdam by my friends?”. Also much like Google’s integration in Android it will also be possible to directly transcribe text and perform web searches.
The smart thing here is that Assistant will learn. It will figure out your daily routines, it will adapt to your needs and become more than just a module for voice commands.
According to one of the creators of this app (see also the video below) in an interview.“ Apple will enable millions upon millions of people to interact with machines with natural language. The PAL (personal assistant software) will get things done, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. We’re talking another technology revolution. A new computing paradigm shift.”
